Day 1 - Navratri Pooja - Unveiling Your Inner Self

The first day of Navratri is starting today, on Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Ashwina Month i.e., October 3, 2024.

Navratri, the festival of nine nights, begins with the worship of Goddess Shailputri.

Mantra - वन्दे वाञ्छितलाभाय चन्द्रार्ध कृतशेखराम् । वृषारूढाम् शूलधराम् शैलपुत्रीम् यशस्विनीम् ॥

As the embodiment of the Earth's energy, she is revered as the daughter of the Himalayas, symbolizing strength and unwavering stability. Her name, 'Shail' meaning mountain and 'Putri' meaning daughter, represents her grounded nature.

Maa Shailputri represents root chakra (Mooladhar Chakra) and she begins her upward journey towards Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) where Shiva resides and which controls our energy and connects us to spirit, and our sense of consciousness, wisdom, and knowledge. This movement to the state of higher consciousness and knowledge promotes better understanding of our purpose, let us harness our power to face challenges and to remove obstacles. Performing medidation during this time let us have the divine experience of being on a journey to know about our higher self.

Let us take you on a journey with Meera. Early in the morning, Meera set up the pooja altar, placing a beautiful copper Kalash filled with pure water, a coconut, and fresh mango leaves. As she gently draped a red chunari over the idol of Mata Shailputri, she was reminded of the strength the goddess embodies.

In her heart, Meera longed for inner stability amidst the chaos of everyday life. And so she lit a diya with desi ghee and scattered fresh red roses and hibiscus petals, she felt a profound connection to the divine. The fragrance of sandalwood incense filled the air, creating a peaceful aura. She used Kumkum, Haldi, and Chandan to mark her forehead, symbolizing her prayers for wisdom, courage, and purity.
